In 1995, Nissan reintroduced the 200SX nameplate in United States and Canada to designate a two-door version of the Nissan Sentra (B14 chassis, a front wheel drive car), known in Japan as Lucino, replacing the Sentra coupe and Nissan NX (discontinued in 1993). The 200SX came in base, SE, and sportier SE-R models. All shared their front-end appearance, front-drive chassis, dashboard, and many dimensions with the Nissan Sentra (Japanese: Nissan Lucino). Base and SE editions shared Sentra's twin-cam GA16DE engine 4-cylinder engine. The SE-R inherited the 140-horsepower 2.0 L SR20DE engine used in the previous 2-door Sentra SE-R. All three came with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic, and were equipped with dual airbags. Antilock brakes were optional in the SE and SE-R. The price, new: $15,269-17,549. Also, base models replaced 13-inch (330 mm) wheels with 14-inchers. 200SX did not return for '99 but its 140 horsepower (100 kW) engine continued in the 4-door Sentra. [edit] Production numbers of the 1995–1998 Nissan 200SX SE-R 1996: 7,205 1997: 3,200 1998: 3,504 In several markets, including Mexico and Japan, this car was sold from 1996 to 2000 under the name of Nissan Lucino, In Mexico it came with two versions available: GSE for the 1.6 l engine, and GSR for the 2.0 l. If not for this one car, there would be no confusion, as every other Nissan with a name ending in "SX" refers to a car based on the Nissan S platform. The B14 Sunny and Sentra appeared in 1994 and were produced till 1998, and featured four-wheel-drive variants. Other than Japan, this variant was produced in Pakistan through a joint venture between Gandhara-Nissan and Nissan Japan till 2001 for the local and export markets. In this generation, the station wagon was supplied to Mazda under an OEM deal as the Familia Van. The Nissan Wingroad range appeared as a spin-off of the Sunny line in Japan, denoting a highly specified station wagon that replaced the Nissan Sunny California. Both the Mazda Familia and the Nissan Wingroad had different front and rear ends compared to the wagon that was exported. Nissan Mexico sold versions of this as the Sentra with 1.6 and 2.0-litre engines. Thailand uses this model of B14 from 1994 until 2000 with a few minor changes along the way. First minor change shows when the rear changes to split the red strip into two sides, next the face changes in a few years with a small ridge i the middle of the hood and a chromium decoration on the hood tip, finally the last minor change, the tail light style changes from two layers of white/red to be the three layers red/white/red. The two variants of engines is 1.5L (in the first generation) and 1.6L (available only after some minor changes). It replaced the outgoing 200SX (S12) model. All versions of the 240SX were equipped with the 2.4-liter inline 4 engine (KA24E from 1989–1990 and KA24DE from 1991–1998). Two distinct generations of the 240SX, the S13 (1989–1994) and the S14 (1995–1998), were produced based on the Nissan S platform. The 240SX is closely related to other S platform based vehicles, such as the Japanese-market Silvia and 180SX, and the European-market 200SX. Although their names are similar, the 240SX is unrelated to the 240Z or the 280ZX. Each of these variants came in two distinct body styles: hatchback, which was offered in both base and SE trim, and coupe, which was offered in base, LE and SE trim levels. Both styles shared the same front bodywork as the Japanese-market Nissan 180SX, featuring the sloping front with retracting headlights. This bodywork distinguishes the coupe model from its Japanese-market counterpart, the Silvia, which featured fixed headlights. Both styles in all markets share the same chassis, and with few exceptions, most components and features are identical. 1989 and 1990 model years are powered by a naturally aspirated 140 horsepower (100 kW) 2.4l SOHC KA24E engine with 3 valves per cylinder (instead of the turbo-charged and intercooled 1.8-liter DOHC CA18DET offered in Japan and Europe). Four-wheel disc brakes were standard, with antilock brakes available as an option on the SE. Both models were offered with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. "Coupes" offered a Heads-up display (HUD) with a digital speedometer as part of the optional Power Convenience Group. This model of S13 is sometimes referred to by its front bumper style named "Pig-nose" due to the front bumper sticking out in a square shape. The 1989-1990 model is also referred to as the S13 Zenki. Nissan 240SX convertible The 240SX received some updates in 1991. This gave the car an overhaul that included a minor update of the exterior and a new cylinder head. The front bumper was updated and a new "LE" hatchback trim package was added that included leather interior. The SOHC KA24E was replaced by the DOHC KA24DE, now with 4 valves per cylinder, rated at 155 horsepower (116 kW) and 160 foot-pounds (220 N·m). An optional sports package including ABS, a limited slip differential, and Nissan's HICAS four wheel steering was now available on hatchback models. In 1992, a convertible was added to the lineup and was exclusive to the North American market. These vehicles began life in Japan as coupes and were later modified in the California facilities of American Specialty Cars (ASC).[1] For the 1994 model year, the only available 240SX was a Special Edition convertible equipped with an automatic transmission. The S13 was known for sharp steering and handling (thanks to front MacPherson struts and a rear multilink suspension) and relatively light weight (2700 lb) but was regarded in the automotive press as being underpowered. The Nissan KA24E engine, while durable, was a heavy iron-block unit that produced meager power for its relatively large size. It was only modestly improved by the introduction of the DOHC version in 1991. These engines are the primary difference between the North American 240SX and the world-market Silvia/180SX/200SX. Other differences include a standard limited slip differential on overseas and Canadian models, available digital climate control in Japan, and manual seat belts standard in Japan and Canada vs. automatic restraint seatbelts in America. The hatchback and convertible body styles were eliminated, leaving only the coupe. The wheelbase of the car grew 2 inches and the track width was also increased, while the overall length of the vehicle was slightly shorter than the previous generation. The curb weight of the vehicle decreased by about 80 pounds relative to the previous car.[2] Dual air bags were added and the automatic seatbelts were replaced with common manual type. The pop-up headlights were removed in favor of fixed lamps. Though the general layout remained the same, almost all parts were redesigned to the extent that very few parts are interchangeable. The chassis was changed slightly to increase stiffness (Nissan claimed 50% torsional, 100% bending rigidity increase)[citation needed] and utilized higher rear strut mounts. The fuel tank, previously located at the rear end under the trunk floor, now sat in front of the rear suspension and behind the rear seats. The base model had 4-lug, 15-inch wheels, a softer suspension, no rear sway bar, and no remote trunk opening option. SE and LE models came equipped with 5-lug, 16-inch alloy wheels, a stiffer suspension than the base model, and a rear sway bar. The LE was basically an upgraded SE model, equipped with leather seats, keyless entry, an antitheft system, and a CD player. Antilock brakes and a viscous limited-slip differential could be had as an optional package to both base and SE/LE models. S14 "Kouki" In 1997, the 240SX received minor updates. The different looks of the S-Chassis are referred to as before change "Zenki" as seen on the right, and after change "Kouki" as seen on the left. Changes were primariliy aesthetic, including new projector headlights, front bumper, hood, fenders, and revised taillights and center panel. Side skirts became standard on the SE and LE trim level. 1998 marked the end of production for the Nissan 240SX, with no further variations released in America. Every 240SX was built in Kyūshū, Japan. The last 240SX rolled off the assembly line on July 23, 1998. [edit] Motorsports The 240SX was successfully raced in several motorsports including the IMSA GT series. The 240SX ran in the GTU class in the IMSA Camel GT series and won several manufacturer and driver championships.[citation needed] The 240SX is also used in the Formula D Drifting series. It saw its start in drifting via the Japanese D1 Grand Prix drifting series. Unfortunately I have to sell my car as I am moving to California for 18 months at the end of January, so the car needs to go ASAP. I've had it for over a year, and it is my pride and joy. I've looked into shipping it over, but I can't justify it as the laws in California are far to strict with modified cars. The car had an extensive refurb from April to August this year. I and a friend basically striped the whole rear end including removing the subframe and refurbished/replaced all parts. There is no rust anymore. The whole engine bay was also cleaned up and sprayed. We are both very fussy people, so it has been done to a high standard. The car has only down a few thousand miles since. Pictures here: -- Car has never been tracked or drifted. I have thought about it in the past, but I'd just feel bad.. The paint is in fairly good condition, apart from the front bumper where someone hit it lightly. The upgrades on the car are as follows: japanese import 60k engine and brand new clutch in the last 6 months(recept for 1700 fitted), 4 inch straight through apex exhaust system, pipercross air filter, large front mount intercooler, ajustable boost, boost gauge, baileys dump valve, new drilled disks and ferodo pads all round, kei rss alloy wheels with mint tyres and new uprated speakers all round. the bodywork of the car is ok but there are some scratches and a few dents on it. realy nice car to drive pulls very strong no smoke at all, allways warmed up and cooled down. the car has done 156k but is all in perfect order and needs nothing. only fault is the aircon needs regassing but i dont use it so didnt bother me. allways been a turbo car but comes up non turbo with insurance companys so it can be insured cheap. Also compressor surge is supposed to be avoided by anti surge compressors and proper engine/turbo pairing. My guess is this is some nasty hybrid which has a huge cold side and a medium hot side... and the little sr just surges it every time he gets off boost.
