| IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS CAR HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY 2 INDEPENDENT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AS HAVING A HEAD GASKET PROBLEM. IT HAS NOT BEEN STRIPPED TO SEE EXTENT...>
OF WORK REQUIRED. IT DOES RUN, HOWEVER IT RUNS IN "LIMP HOME" MODE AND OBVIOUSLY WITH EXCESS SMOKE FROM EXHAUST SO I WOULD RECOMMEND RECOVERY COLLECTION. NO WARRANTY WILL BE OFFERED WITH THIS CAR AND IT IS SOLD AS SEEN. OFFERS IN EXCESS OF £5000 CONSIDERED. | OK now the important information is out of the way, I will explain more about this car. It is in very good condition on the bodywork side of things and on the interior. It only has 48K on the clock although I`m not sure at what point a head gasket fault was found. We purchased it in good faith and had problems with the initial dealer so we are selling to recover the remaining money and expenses we lost whilst fighting the case. We`ve received a massive chunk of the money back thanks to the credit card company and because we were unable to drive the car in the meantime, we had to buy another to get us around. We`ve decided to stick with the car we bought and sell this one to recover the missing amounts as it`s easier than taking an elusive dealer to court! | The car is legit, I had an HPI check done after purchase (which I can provide for the buyer) and because of the nature of the problem with the dealer, we had it checked out with the police too who confirmed it`s a legitimate car. It did have a private plate on it in 2008 but the old plate was restored about 8 months afterwards by the then owners and it all ties in with the DVLA. | I also bought the upgraded 2011 Sat Nav maps so it will come with the original and the replacement set. | We have done less than 100 miles in it and as soon as it went into "Limp Home" mode, we drove it home. The DPF light came on shortly after purchase but I`ve been told this will happen if the head gasket is gone but recharging of the DPF is likely possible once the head gasket problem is fixed. | I wanted to be honest in this ad as I`d hate for someone to have to go through what we did. | This car once fixed, considering it`s low mileage and condition, would be worth about £12k on the open market. Estimates are about £1k - £2k to fix but a trader will probably be able to do it for much less so a big resell profit is there to be made. | We are in no rush to sell the car and will only listen to offers of over £5000. So please do not ask us to part with it for less as your offer will be rebuffed. | Payment via bank transfer, cash, bankers draft or cheque only but the car will only be released once funds have cleared. | We are gutted that this car was sold to us in an unsatisfactory condition as it was our dream car but the experience has left us put off the car. However, we would definitely consider a Pathfinder in the future. We don`t have the money to get this one repaired either. | Please feel free to message me with any questions. I can also supply Nissan diagnostic reports if you wish to see them. | This car cannot be delivered and is for collection only but as advised earlier, it`s probably best to arrange a recovery as driving it in it`s current condition could cause it more problems. | This is the top of the range Aventura model with Full Dark Grey leather interior, reversing cameras, Sat Nav with 2011 map upgrade. MOT until August 7th 2012. | Happy bidding! | X

That’s because this pick-up is a gigantic brute of a car, a proper workhorse, a ‘car’ that’s not afraid to roll up its sleeves and get dirty. And because Nissan knows that it can’t match the green oval kudos of Land Rover you can buy the Pathfinder loaded with leather, heated electric seats and sat-nav. Question is, is this a step too far? What powers the Nissan Pathfinder? Some large V8?There’s only one engine, an archaic but hardy 169bhp 2.5-litre diesel. And while overtaking on single carriageways is best consigned to memory, 297lb ft of torque ensures the same lumbering pace regardless of the hill the Nissan faces. As you might imagine, handling is not high up the Pathfinder's priorities. Body roll is borderline ridiculous, it’s not great at softening out the road’s bumps, and with a back end that extends into neighbouring counties, the Pathfinder can feel clumsy on narrow B-roads. Steering requires more muscle effort than most and the gearshift is a little sloppy. But those who’d buy into the exterior styling – effectively a Navara with a steel canopy above the pick-up bed, and well suited to gun racks, hunting lights and UN decals – would want it to be a bit of a brute.Click 'Next' below to read more of our Nissan Pathfinder first drive 123Next>> Rate this article... 1 2 3 4 5 Average rating: 3 (49 votes) Discuss this Add your comment Sign in You must be signed in to submit a comment. Nissan replaced the clutch after 100,000, and it just goes and goes. That has been the only problem. Monday to Friday it has been used to commute, with the 3 kids, weekends it pulls a horse box, and at holiday times we take grandparents as well. 85-90mph on the motorway is easy, stable, and comfortable. 70mph with the box behind it, two roof racks and loaded to the gunnels, no problem. Better than 30mpg, as well. No, it doesn't corner like an Elise, but an Elise is no use if there's five adults, two big dogs and a horse to move around, and neither will it pull a horsebox across a wet field. Going to visit the family is a 1000km trip, 12 hours driving, and the seats are brilliant, I get out without backache, as do the rest of the tribe, which again is not something you can say about many cars, or at least I can't. If I would give one piece of advice, it would be not to go for the sat-nav, which is fine new, but cannot be updated without dismantling half the car to change the disk. Oh, and buy a hydraulic jack, as the one supplied is a bit feeble. That apart, if this is the market you're in, you can't do better. A second hand Disco as an alternative? You must be on another planet. I wouldn't swap mine now for a new Discovery, as I know two people who've bought one for pulling their kids' horses around, and they've both spent as much time off the road being fixed under guarantee as on it. Our other car is a 2004 X-Trail, with 180,000km so far, and again, never a problem. 11 August 2010 10:03 thenoname says RE: Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi Aventura CAR review Adventura is good and I have just got a 2007. However £14,000 is pushing it as I paid £12,300 for mine and that was from a Nissan Dealer. The car guides put them at around that price so £14K+ is a no no. Cant make up my mind on it yet as I PX a Patrol. I do find the paint on the Pathfinder soft and prone to scratches and markes where the Patrol seemed solid. I have been informed that it is down to the fact that they use waterbase paint, but as I do not have a clue I cannot comment. A lot of plastic inside that also is prone to marking. I did however put a tuning box on which I fit to all my vehicles which supposidly boosts the BHP up to 206. It certainly feels more responsive and can say with hand on heart I put the cruise control on 60mph from Gatwick to Heathrow on M25 and returned 48mpg. And 30+ urban. Then it's all how you drive it. The tyres that come with it are a odd size 255/65R17. Twin duelers were not much cop in the snow even with the traction controll off. I swappep them on the Patrol for General Grabber AT which were brillient as I off road a fair bit. I can't seem to find Grabbers in Pathfinder size as the Patrol was a 16 inch rim and wider. They were £90 each. Maybe some one can direct me to a site that will give me a good AT tyre that fits. The sat nav updates are expensive at well over £300, But I got one for £20 from Ebay that works fine. Trust this helps Thenoname 11 February 2009 16:39 karenmelton says RE: Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi Aventura CAR review i am buying a used pathfinder, on 07 plate top spec aventura dci any problems i should be aware of ahead of the purchase , buying it as price is so low only 14,999, its got 17.000 miles on the clock in todays credit crunch no one wants these beasts but we compared it to the likes of vauxhall zafira at allmost the same cost and this seems a better buy 18 January 2009 22:51 Oakwood says RE: Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi Aventura CAR review Does anyone know if Nissan have sorted out the clutch and flywheel design after the failures of the 2005 Pathfinders? I had two clutches fail in 40000 miles, against earlier ownership of a Landrover where the clutch lasted over 10 years. Nissan have yet to persuade me that their vehicles are reliable. 18 January 2009 14:43 geed says RE: Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi Aventura driven Remember Matthew Jones, it's only on this tiny little xenophobic island where people think Landrovers are the "only" choice if you want an offroader. Those in countries that choose a 4wd out of necessity will almost always go with a truck that has a Nissan or a Toyota badge on it. The Landrover badge is synonymous with failure. Turn up in outback Australia in a Discovery for instance and providing you made it their in the first place, you will be laughed at all the way back to your suburban paved driveway - often on the back of a flatbed ;-) 15 May 2008 15:32 Show all comments Become a CAR contributor Upload stories, photos or videos direct to the site, or email newsdesk@carmagazine.co.uk. Will you be buying one of them? Read on” IT'S THAT TIME of year again, with rain, snow, ice and gale force winds. Weather that will reconfirm the initial decision by some new car buyers that it was definitely right to buy a 4x4. However, in the longer term that decision may not make financial or environmental sense. Higher taxation levels and inner city residential and commuting charges are currently taking hold and additional draconian measures proposed by the EEC, based on the weight of vehicles, will hit off-roader owners' pockets even harder in the future. In theory, everybody has the right to buy the vehicle of their choice. But as we probably know — and keep getting reminded of by the environmental lobby and the eco-police — 4x4s are OK in the right place. The 'right' place being in the country — not in a town or city environment and definitely not for urban school runs. It seems as though the anti-social and high running cost messages associated with these vehicles might finally be getting through to owners. UK 4x4 sales dropped last year by six per cent, although top-of-the-range models actually increased their sales. From the seven per cent growth in MPVs, it appears that some 'Yummy Mummies' at least might have seen fashion sense and moved from a 'soft' 4x4 to a people carrier. The change in buying trends, plus new legislation, is not good news for some manufacturers — for instance: Land/Range Rover, Jeep and Nissan. Nissan is an interesting position. Their UK car sales were down by a substantial 20 per cent last year, and about half their current model line-up consists of 4x4 vehicles. If sales of SUV/4x4 vehicles continue to fall this year, times could become very difficult — even though Nissan says that SUV/4x4 models only account for 25 per cent of their total UK sales. The Nissan SUV/4x4 model line-up consists of their X-Trail range (one of the better selling compact SUVs competing against the likes of the Land Rover Freelander), the highly-rated Navara King and Double Cab pick-ups, the Pathfinder five- and seven-seat mid-sized models selling against the Land Rover Discovery, the fashionable Murano 4x4 'crossover' model that thinks it's a sports car and the Patrol, an out-right heavyweight authentic 4x4 that goes anywhere and tows any-thing up to 3,500kg. In addition, Nissan is about to launch the Qashqai (pronounced 'cash-kye'), a compact crossover/family hatchback with two- or four-wheel drive models that looks like a 'soft' 4x4 and which is being built at Nissan's Sunderland factory. Nissan are undeniably big in 4x4s and they must be hoping not only that the British love affair with such vehicles continues but also that last year's decline in sales was nothing more than a 'blip'. The Nissan Pathfinder range has recently been revised for 2007. The 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine has been dropped from the line-up and the 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit now gives way to a new 2.5-litre Euro IV compliant engine. With over 90 per cent of 4x4s sold having diesel engines, there doesn't seem much point in keeping petrol options. Nissan is expecting the Pathfinder to attract around 3,000 UK sales this year. The core attractions of the Pathfinder are its mid-size, five- or seven-seat options, go-anywhere 4x4 traction and affordability. Throw in Nissan's renowned build quality and reliability and already you have a sensible package. Prices start at 22,995 and rise to 29,895 for the fully spec'd range-topping Aventura model with automatic transmission. They all share the same 2.5-litre 169bhp four-cylinder second-gener-ation direct injection turbodiesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission, depending on the particular trim level. There are three trim levels: basic workhorse 'Trek' to mid-market 'Sport' to business executive 'Aventura'. I'd probably go for the Sport with auto transmission, priced at 26,895, which would be a good combination vehicle for country, town and motorway use. I can see country people wanting a rugged 4x4 sticking with the cheapest version which makes good financial sense. With its all-mode 4x4 system, two- and four-wheel drive and high and low ratio options — all available at the turn of a switch — the Pathfinder is a really good performer off-road. Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist are additional transmission aids fitted as standard to the automatic models. My test model was the top-grade Aventura with auto transmission. Clearly aimed at the business market, it's probably well suited to a dual role as a company car during the week and a family recreational vehicle at the weekend. This model lacks for nothing in specification, as can be seen from the following list: seven seats, leather upholstery with power-adjust and heated front seats plus memory, driver, passenger, front side and curtain airbags, dual-zone climate control, rear heater and A/C controls, electric windows and door mirrors, auto-dim rear view mirror, rear privacy glass, opening glass on rear hatch, six-speaker sound system with MP3 compatibility, CD autochanger, leather steering-wheel with audio controls, trip computer, cruise control, auto headlamps and rain sensing wipers, new generation Birdview DVD satellite navigation with 7-inch colour screen, voice-command operation of SatNav and telephone system, colour rear view camera to assist reversing, 17-inch alloy wheels, side steps, Xenon headlights, headlamp washers and an electric tilt and slide sunroof. The seating for seven is arranged over three rows and all seating positions have anti-whiplash head restraints. With simple actions, the two middle rows of seats fold individually (or together) to form a com-pletely flat floor with an extremely accommodating 2,091 litres of cargo space. For those with time on their hands, there are 64 seat/cargo configurations to experiment with. Legroom in the middle and third rows is not especially generous; definitely more suited to children than to adults. With all seats occupied the luggage area is relatively small, reminding us that this is, after all, a mid-sized 4x4. And while it may not have the road presence of some of the current 4x4 monsters, it is easier to park and to use on narrow roads. As mentioned earlier, the new Pathfinder now has a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine — up from the previous 2.2-litre unit. More power and torque, a more refined and quieter power delivery are distinct improve-ments over the old 2.2. Power output is 169bhp and maximum torque is 297lb ft from just 2,000rpm. Top speed is an acceptable 108mph with the 0-62mph dash covered in 11.8 seconds. Not exciting or the best in its class, but plenty good enough for real country-life custom-ers. Average fuel consumption is quoted as 28.8mpg but my model — heavily weighed down with executive specification — returned 29.5mpg during a week of average day-to-day style driving. Now that was pretty impressive for a 4x4 with automatic transmission. Official con-sumption figures for Urban and Touring are, respectively, 23.5 and 33.2mpg. As you would expect in the handling department, there is the usual 4x4 body roll and fore/aft pitching — but it was better than many. Ride comfort was good as well: no harsh spine bashing, thanks to its pretty absorbent set-up. The Pathfinder excels off-road. The ALL MODE (with ESP+ and traction control) 4x4 system is easy to use and, if fitted with some grippy all-terrain tyres, the vehicle would be a good off-road workhorse. For those who want a tow vehicle, the Pathfinder has a braked towing capacity of 3,000kg. We live in a badge conscious age, so the Pathfinder will not necessarily have the brand appeal for everyone. On road driving is rather 'old school' 4x4 and the auto 'box on my test car was sluggish changing gear. On the plus side it offers practical, go-anywhere ability, seven seats, a comprehensive specification and Trek and Sport versions are well priced. And if that's not enough for you, it's also been voted the 'Best Medium Off-Roader 2006' in Planet 4x4 magazine's first ever awards. — David Miles Nissan Pathfinder Aventura 7-seater 2.5 dCi | 29,895 Maximum speed: 108mph | 0-62mph: 11.8 seconds Test MPG: 29.5mpg | Power: 169bhp | Torque: 297lb ft Visit Nissan's website -------------------------------------------------- Nissan Pathfinder Aventura || Loading Advert HomeNew CarsUsed CarsCar LeasingVan LeasingCar ReviewsSell Your CarCar LoansCar InsuranceCar Parts Buy Used Nissan Pathfinder Aventura E4 DciLog In / RegisterNissan Pathfinder0844 5584 990£13,995 Need a loan?
