Crowning the new model as the Van of the Year 2010, the ITM has confirmed that there is simply no other LCV to beat the NV200. And it’s easy to see why judges were so taken with the recently launched model. Many small family cars will struggle to match the Nissan’s thrifty fuel economy and CO2 emissions, and it’s clear the NV200 has broken the mould in the small van sector, combining the attributes of a conventional commercial vehicle and a traditional people carrier. Offering space, comfort and a high level of functionality, the NV200 seats up to seven people while retaining significant storage capacity and comfort for passengers. Weve had this problem with other vans and & pickups. We currently run a small fleet of vans & pickups , all of which are Japanese imports , for this reason. Only by having Jap imports can we get autos on these vehicles ( & also the twin rear wheel option which also isnt offered in the UK ). CAR MAKE & MODEL Nissan NV200 Combi 2010 Pictures CAR REF NUMBER27879 By Danny Cobbs The first thing you may notice as you climb aboard is that the interior doesn’t offer the same degree of luxury and refinement as we have come to expect from even the most basic of MPVs. However if you consider it merely a mover of several people, with all the benefits a van can offer then it doesn’t disappoint. The Combi isn’t rocket science – the addition of windows and two rows of extra seats are all that differ from this and the standard NV200 van. Whilst on the subject of those seats, the second row does fold, split and perform several other not-unique tricks. The two seats in the row three - which, when not in use, are each stored quite primitively against either side panel - simple drop down into place when needed. They are adult sized, although legroom between second and third rows is little bit limited. On the road the 1.5dCi engine almost feels spritely given that it doesn’t have the frippery weight of a conventional MPV to lug around it. The 1.5dCi engine is the same unit found in the Micra and the Qashqai and although capable of just 85PS it is backed up by plenty of mid-range torque. Having a good power to weight ratio also allows it to retain a very smug combined fuel consumption of 53.3mpg. Most prevalently where it does become obvious that this is still just a lightweight van is when judged on its ride and handling. The suspension is still set-up to accept a heavy payload, and it really needs this bulk to keep it truly hunkered-down to the road and stop it from bouncing around. Having a van as a donor vehicle hasn’t precluded it from some niceties, though. The SE becomes the entry level for the 7-seat and boasts the normal array of safety equipment we have come to expect in a new vehicle. ABS + EBD are standard fit, as are driver and passenger airbags. A reversing camera and air con are also included in the £14,625 + VAT price (don’t forget this is still deemed a commercial vehicle and subject to taxes imposes by HM Customs and Excise). For: There is honesty to the NV200 Combi which is quite refreshing. It could also save you money if you need it for work and can also make use of it at the weekend with family. Against: The utilitarian of its commercial underpinnings won’t be to everybody’s taste Verdict: It`s a case of what you see is what you get; no spin-doctoring, no gimmicks – it does the job it is supposed to do and if you accept it as it is, it can’t really disappoint.
