Disadvantages: None ...time ago…then I discovered the Nissan Note… My lady and I decided to look for another car because the big ol' Mercedes was getting a bit tired now, so I pulled into a Nissan dealership and a delightful young lady saw us entering and immediately became our shadow…I asked her what's new and she showed me the Note…looks small I said to her after walking around it a couple of times but I liked the look of the 15' wheels on her and the ......in her first 9000 miles…the service at Nissan is excellent… My fuel bill has been cut by 62% over the past few months and am happy with this well built car… The Nissan Note delivers everything that the manufacturers say and more… ... more I've always preferred a larger car with a straight six, big pot motor, or a V8…always wanted a rear wheel drive vehicle with big interior, couldn't fit in smaller because I'm 6"4' tall, a big luggage compartment and I always felt safe in them…so I drove this type of vehicle since I started to drive a long time ago…then I discovered the Nissan Note…My lady and I decided to look for another car because the big ol' Mercedes was getting a bit tired now, so I pulled into a Nissan dealership and a delightful young lady saw us entering and immediately became our shadow…I asked her what's new and she showed me the Note…looks small I said to her after walking around it a couple of times but I liked the look of the 15' wheels on her and the high rear placement of the lights for safety, front lights looked a little weird though but were well made, just wasn't used to looking at a modern car I suppose…I peered under the hood and it was the first time I came across a transversely mounted motor to accommodate a front wheel drive, was very small I thought but looks well put together…1600 motor, now was there enough power I thought and glanced anxiously at my 5 litre gleaming Mercedes parked in the sunlight outside…I opened the boot and it was big and I was told that the rear seats actually move forward for more space and they fold down to really create a large area, that was interesting to find out but how much leg room would there be for me in the front I wondered? The door handles are flush mounted and are easily operated and the door was much larger than my ol' Mercedes but was surprisingly light for it's size and I slipped into the drivers seat, it was much higher and was delighted to find that it has an arm rest on the left side of the seat but not leather seats…but oh so comfy and it adjusted from all angles so I could really find a great driving position…with the drivers seat in the correct position for my long legs and the back seats pushed forward to create more space in the luggage area, an adult could still fit in behind me on the back seat…this car was actually bigger than my big car inside…and my lady was much closer to my left side so that was nice too…this car is actually deceptively large.I started the motor and heard her fire up and then nothing, just whisper quiet, had to double check the rev counter to see if it hadn't stalled but the needle was there on a steady 2,200 rpm…the instrument panel is well laid out and clear to read…indicators, lights and wipers all in finger touch from the steering wheel driving position was excellent I thought as well as the CD player radio combination…I want one of those and my lady didn't take much convincing either so I signed the paper work and a month later I picked my Note…I ordered one in a matt black finish and a black interior with an automatic gearbox… On the very day I picked up the car we were off to Aberystwyth for a week for a holiday…took a bit of getting used to the front wheel drive concept and a motor that doesn't growl back at you and she was surprisingly quick and the brakes on this car are phenomenal, just a touch on the accelerator or brakes and you have the best of both…the power to weight ratio is perfectly balanced and road holding is second to none, me being used to the back drifting out of roundabouts and corners when accelerating and nose diving that larger rear wheel cars do when braking…the 15' wheels offer fantastic ground clearance and although she's been loaded in the rear with all sorts on our wanderings…the continental tyres she came with have always held the road…comfortable and not sluggish and no awkward swaying on the road…the gear change on the automatic gearbox is seamless up to 4th which is like an overdrive and down change as well. I have to really fight to keep her below 70mp/h on the motorways because she's incredibly capable, has an unbelievable high-speed firmness, loves the open road and returns 47mpg…I find that town driving is a bit bumpy over man hole covers and potholes and the steering is very light…returns about 42 mpg and when I had the air conditioner on which was for the most of summer she still returned about 40mpg but she is very fast around town had to watch out for my 30 and 40 mph zones and my sat.nav was kept very busy notifying me of this…but then again on the open road with the air conditioner on she returned 46 - 47 mpg so not much difference there…The wind noise is suppressed with windows closed and the road sound is hardly evident…I miss the walnut dashboards, soft finishing and leather seats but the finishes in this car although plastic seem extremely durable and all the controls operate with effortless precision…the criterion of installation for this car is very high…I feel safe in this car with all the airbags that surround me, I sincerely hope I shall never need to use them and I find it hard to fault the dead locks on all the doors and engine immobiliser…I also like the various little places to put all your stuff…I got this car in April of this year and live in Manchester…besides the Wales trip I've been to North Yorkshire, Cambridge, Nottingham, Birmingham, Kirkham, Cumbria, Preston and the Isle of Man…needless to say the first 9000 miles service came up sooner than later and I booked her in for the first service at Nissan…I waited 1 ½ hours for the service unlike my 2 day waits for my other big car services and the mechanic told me she hadn't used a drop of oil or water in her first 9000 miles…the service at Nissan is excellent…My fuel bill has been cut by 62% over the past few months and am happy with this well built car…The Nissan Note delivers everything that the manufacturers say and more… ...less hewholaughslast 21.12.2006 (21.12.2006) Ciao members have rated this car review on average: very helpful Review of Nissan Note 1.6 Automatic Value for Money Road Handling Comfort Features Fuel consumption Looks Take a note of this! I brought this car as a replacement for a Toyota Avensis, with a family of two gangly teenagers, me at 6ft, my wife not much shorter and a dog. As you can imagine, I need space, but don't want to be in a bus. The Note provides space in bucket loads. JCB bucket loads. With the drivers seat, ......have space for my legs. (and yes they do remain attached to my body!) The boot is large, don't let the figures on many websites put you off, as they don't account for the false floor, or the back seat sliding forward. The false floor has two boards, removable with one hand, that allows you to have a two tier storage space, it's very useful, we keep a box of bits in the car, and it stays under there. In the past, Nissans have been described as bland by some people but the Note is a world away from that. Too small to be a compact MPV, yet about 25cm longer than a Honda Jazz, the latest Nissan doesn't set new boundaries - it ignores existing ones. But will Japan's third best-selling car strike a chord with UK buyers? We couldn't wait to try it to find out... Despite its tall stance, the car's long wheelbase and short overhangs give it a squat, chunky appearance. The front is dominated by big headlamps and a Murano-style grille, while the gently rising waistline gives it a sporty edge. A pair of boomerang-shaped light clusters frame a conventional rear tailgate. Aimed squarely at family car buyers, the Note's versatile cabin has plenty of room. Its sliding and split-folding rear bench moves forwards and backwards by 160mm to optimise either rear legroom or luggage space. Even in its middle setting, there's room for two six-footers to sit one behind the other without complaint, and the front passenger seat fully reclines to accommodate extra-long loads. Our test vehicle was fitted with the Family Pack, which is standard on all SE and SVE models. It adds front and back armrests, rear picnic tables and aircraft-style storage pockets behind the seats. Rear reading lights and privacy glass are also included. Meanwhile, the 280-litre boot has a dual-position floor thanks to a pair of reversible boards. In the upper configuration they allow a completely flat load bay when the seats are folded, and hide a 200mm deep compartment - ideal for storing valuables. Alternatively, the two panels can be placed on the boot floor to increase the carrying space by 100 litres. Up front, the dashboard is logically laid out with switchgear borrowed from the Micra. But while the creak-free interior is well built, many of the plastics feel rather hard. Another disappointment is the absence of any reach adjustment for the steering wheel. The rake can be altered, and the driver's seat raised and lowered, but tall drivers will still find themselves sitting too close to the pedals. On the move, the 108bhp 1.6-litre model we tested is well suited to the task of hauling the Note around - it's the same unit used in the Micra 160 SR and C+C. While it revs busily at motorway pace, refinement is impressive and there's no need to raise your voice at cruising speeds. On the admittedly smooth French roads of our test route, the suspension was competent at soaking up any bumps and imperfections. There's plenty of grip, but as you would expect from a tall car, no shortage of body roll when cornering. The flagship SVE model we drove gets a unique sports set-up for its electric, speed sensitive power-steering. This is precise and well weighted, but the standard system on the rest of the range has a more artificial feel. With strong and progressive brakes, the only major weakness from behind the wheel is the notchy gearbox, but customers opting for the 1.6-litre can specify a four-speed automatic instead. The Note can be ordered now and officially hits showrooms in March, with diesel versions following a month later. It might not conform to conventional class sizes, but looks set to be a noteworthy addition to Nissan's line-up.
