The engine delivers more than 60mpg yet still performs well. Against It's debatable if you need all these gadgets on a Note. We rate its sprightly feel around town, and it never feels out of its depth on faster roads. The larger petrol engine is faster still, but fuel economy does drop off from 47.9mpg to 42.8mpg. The two diesels offer good economy and plenty of mid-range performance.Although the Note is pricier than many five-door superminis that you might consider as alternatives, low emissions and good fuel economy keep running costs competitive and it holds on to a healthy chunk of its value. The entry-level Visia model gets a CD player and electric front windows, but no air-con. Our favourite model is the 1.4 Acenta, it costs an extra £1350 over the entry model but we reckon it's worth spending the money. Air-conditioning, rear electric windows and full-length curtain airbags all join the equipment roster. A brilliant runaround or compact family car, the Nissan Note is a clever citycar with lots of smart special features and a deceptively roomy interior. The experience The Note is nimble about town, with a tight turning circle and a narrow chassis for easy parking. Shoulder space isn't compromised, and the Note has ample room for four adults, even two six footers in the back. The high roofline gives plenty of headroom and there's lots of stowage space at 437 litres. Fold the rear seats and you double the already capacious boot. The interior is finished to a very high standard, with durable soft touch plastics and a slick 5" touch screen driver's interface. The performance Two petrol engines are available, a 1.4 or a 1.6 litre. Both are efficient and economical to run. The 1.4 litre delivers a strong 36mpg and produces just 150g/km of CO2, and the 1.6 litre pushes the Note from 0 - 62mph in just over ten seconds and achieves 33mpg on the combined cycle. Diesel power is catered for with a pair of 1.5 litre turbodiesls with 85bhp or 102bhp. The 102bhp unit is capable of a fierce 55mpg combined and keeps emissions to a minimum at 136g/km. The technology The Nissan Note is well catered for on safety with twin front and side airbags, engine immobiliser and deadlocks included across the trim scale. Offered in five trims, starting with Visia, all Notes are equipped with ABS, electric power steering and MP3 compatibility. Next stop is Visia with air conditioning, followed by Acenta, with alloy wheels and electric rear windows. Acenta with Nissan Connect ups the user friendly features. Finally Tekna includes style conscious extras like tinted rear window and beefier alloys.
